Additional info from session drummer David Heinke:
Hearts not in it:
Roy--lead vocals, bass
Ant--low backing, gtr
Christian--high backing, lead guitar
Don't know about synth.
Drums are pretty sparse. No cymbals on purpose. I used tympani mallets. I trick I used a couple of times (and 90% sure I used on this track) was to lay a whole drum head upside-down on the snare drum, so it sounded more "farty."
The demo for this was roy sort of strumming a little ditty--not really "swingy", but it did not have the straight 8th note drive that the finished version had. When we started, Roy wanted a rocked out version of that (the groove was not unlike Turn Up the Sun by Oasis). It didn't work really, and it was eventually Ant who had this idea. After that, it took maybe two takes.
